My RNY surgery was four plus years ago. I found my friend when I still needed to eat soft foods.
I remember trying her ricotta and tomato sauce bake when I was early out. It went down so well and I did not miss the lasagna noodles. I hope you enjoy many of her recipes.

Mom Passed on to Glory June 6 2012
Time is not going too fast nor too slow.
It just seems that I need this time to reflect on my relationship with my mom. I was her first born. She looked on me as the calm one. One who would listen. Mom always loved to talk to me for hours.
Mom died the first Wednesday of June. How will I explain the day to you? I learned from my brother that she was rushed to the hospital and was unresponsive. I spent the whole day just waiting...
Mom had cancer. In fact, it was her second bout with cancer but this time the cancer was in her lungs and her brain. Had she fought breast cancer and survived only 15 years ago?
Mom would tell me that she was not ready to go yet.
She lived 85 1/2 years.
Mom donated her body to a university. I pray that the medical students are treating her body with respect.
Yet, I do not believe that she is her body. I do not believe that she is there at the university.
Next year, there will be a service for all who have donated their earthly bodies. Her ashes will come back to my sister. We just learned from my uncle that she wanted the ashes spread over several states.
For the family members that can make it and the residents who knew mom the last years of her life in the apartment home where she resided there will be a memorial service next month.
How do I feel about this service? I will go but mom is not there either. Mom is with me.

Eggs Vs Me
I cooked up a fried egg in butter. I successfully turned it over and did not crack the yolk nor cook it too solidly. Yet, I could not stomach more than three bites. I briefly thought to keep it in front of me and read or doodle. You know, just pass the time and try again in ten or fifteen minutes. UGH. Cool cooked egg...nasty. Yet, I wanted that protein that was sitting on my plate now in a gooey yellow mess.
Why is it I have trouble eating eggs? Would I have been better served with chicken. Not that I can eat more than a few bites of chicken.
My surgeon said to eat within 50 minutes and be done with my food. He said to toss it. He is not privy to all the food that I have tossed. My disposal eats more per day than I do.
Today, I vowed to clean out the fridge of all those leftover items that are possibly going bad or have departed being useful. It is still on my to do list.
I still have some good leftover Chicken Taco Soup with beans chilles and tomatoes. It was so good. I just cannot eat it daily. The beans do a number on the atmosphere around me.
Do you have issues with eggs? I have tried and tried to incorporate eggs. I make delicious quiches that my grandsons and husband adore. I alone eat just a bit.
My first experience with eggs post surgery was not good. I did not feel well. I did not vomit but felt close.
Weeks later, I tried again. I was well past the pureed stage and had been eating lots of different things. My scrambled eggs were light and fluffy. They looked great. Rejected by my little stomach.
Months later, I tried again with so much water that they were pale. It was a miracle. I ate about 3/4 of an egg.
Since then, I try monthly to down at least part of an egg. If I ate a whole egg, I would be amazed.
You can see by this writing that I have and will continue to try eggs in different forms.

Cancer
I just learned Monday morning that my brother has cancer. My sister in law called and gave me the information with a long list of where the doctors say the cancer is. Gary had gone into the hospital because he had had a cold that turned into pneumonia. He was sent home after 6 hours in the emergency room. A short time later while they were sleeping a call came in that the chest xray showed lesions on the liver. He was told he needed to come back in because he had cancer. Imagine that call.
I called the hospital and spoke with Gary for quite a few hours. We talked about his family. His youngest is two years older than my grandson. She will be 13 in February. He also has another daughter and a son. I last saw him when his boy was a toddler. His oldest is just a bit younger than another grandson. He lives in FL and I am up in New England near where we were raised.
Or should I say that I raised him and my other brothers from the time I was 15. This is a very long story. I am the oldest of seven original siblings and twelve if you count the step siblings and my half sister.
Monday was a holiday celebrating the life of Martin Luther King Jr. For many years, I had gone in on a bus to a breakfast event in Boston where we heard speakers who spoke eloquently. The breakfast was not so hot. I ate the fruit and a roll last time. I drank tea. I brought my own yogurt to help with my protein needs.
This year, we planned to do something different. We were going to sort clothes and help out at Cradles to Crayons. We had a collection at church. There were many boxes and bags donated.
It was a long and busy day planned. Life interupts. I put my plans aside for the morning. Gary and I have had an easy relationship despite not talking in months. I last spoke with him when my mom entered the hospital last year. At that time, it was an emergency for her.
I was going into Brandeis University with many from my church. Our day was to begin at 1 pm. at the university and end at 8 pm. I wanted to see the program that included Reverend Liz Walker. In her previous lifetime work she was a news journalist on a Boston television station. She had gone to Southern Sudan in the summer of 2001. I followed all her news broadcasts from there. My heart went out to the people of Sudan.
There were things that needed to be done. I had to bring some water and make a protein drink. I also had to dress as the call came moments after I woke up in the morning. A call from my eldest grandson who needed a ride was now something else I had to do.
I drove my grandson to his home and proceeded to head off to Brandeis. I knew that I must go there on my own as surely everyone had left the church parking lot. I checked my email via my iPhone and saw where we were to go to meet on the campus. I put Brandeis University Waltham MA in my car's GPS. I set off.
I was just 30 minutes late. It was good that I was driving on my own. One of our church members lives in Lowell. She could go home from the event at the end of the night. She did not have to go back to church with passengers.
We spent another few minutes listening to the speakers tell us how the day was organized and that we would be going in one of three buses. We were to grab bags to load on the bus with us. We went into Brighton and filed off the buses and into Cradles to Crayons. I was amazed at the size of the plant inside.
We all had to sign a release form and get counted in. It was a super long line. I broke away as the 24 ounces that I had been drinking needed release.
I drank most of my water and an orange juice there while waiting for further instructions and after doing the work while we gathered again to discuss our time there.
Cradles to Crayons was started to offer good quality items for children.
We were there to sort the bags of donations. Others were going to be the 'shoppers' for a child and would go find the items that child needed based on age and gender. Some others went to toys to sort, wash and make sure all the pieces were available. Some went to match hats and gloves in sets. Others went to do secondary sorting of clothes that had been sorted by gender. Others went to go through the books and make sure they were not ripped or damaged.
Our task as I stated was to go through bags that had just come in. We had to make sure that there was no damage stains or rips. We wanted quality to preserve the dignity of the child. Those clothes that needed to be sewn, or a button attached were placed in a barrel where they would be donated to Salvation Army for their stores.
We learned that young girls get the most clothes and the most donations. Our two biggest bins were long pants, girls and boys clothes. The girls overflowed the boys not even one quarter of the bin. There were plenty of summer clothes but this is winter and long pants are necessary.
We also had smaller bins for coats, boots and shoes and mittens and hats.
It was a rewarding time. I do hope we go again. It is well worth my day to go there. I am hoping our youth group makes this one of their service days. I would go with them.
I was so happy to have something to do instead of just staying home dwelling on my brother's condition. I am amazed that there is another incidence of cancer in the family. We have been living in different parts of the country yet many have had cancer. My aunt died April 6, 2011 of cancer. My uncle and mom have cancer. My cousin's son died of cancer. Now, Gary. I know that both my grandmothers died of cancer.
Gary has cancer in his liver, pancreas, brain, skull, spine, kidneys and lungs. No symptoms other than catching a cold from one of his grandsons which developed into pneumonia.

Four Year Anniversary of RNY Surgery. Repurposing Goal.
I was taken aback when I visited my surgeon's office on Tuesday January 4th to learn that I had gained 13 pounds over the year. I knew that I had issues with my weight but did not remember what I had been in Jan. 2011.
He wants me to come back in April. At this point, I should have been all set to return in Jan. 2013.
No, he wants to keep tabs on me.
I posted a video right away about this problem.
I have been doing well. I have lost weight since I was in the office. I will achieve what I need to by the time I see Dr Gazmuri in April. I am well on my way.
I would love to be 145 pounds. I do not know if it is possible. I would need to lose 14 pounds to be that weight. You do the math!

Eating Out Fail
Three times in the last three days, I have eaten out with my daughter and grandson. We were driving up Rt 102 in RI, and stopped at Wright's Farm. It has a basic menu based on comfort foods and chicken.
I took very little chicken as I was not sure of the cooking method. Let me tell you that our server was frazzled and seemed like it was a bad day. I knew that I would not be eating the macaroni and sauce nor the fries. I did eat some of their standard salad. It was a big restaurant and next to our table was a dad and his children. Next to them was a steady stream of overweight people going to tables in the reserved section.
I did manage to eat this chicken and even took some more. It ended up that I had about three ounces. It was very moist.
The next day, I was to get my grandson to sleep over and go to church with me. It was decided that we would meet up nearer to where my daughter lives. Often we meet near her work which only offers standard restaurants like Olive Garden, Bertucci's and a steak and fries restaurant which is off limits for me. I cannot find much in these restaurants but have on occasion eaten at any one of them since surgery with family and friends.
We went to a Lebanese restaurant el Basha, where I had hoped to get skewered chicken as nice as the food that I had years ago. I found that this chicken was too dry. I had the stuck feeling. I took out two papaya enzyme tablets and chewed them.
Driving away, I decided that a few more papaya enzyme tablets would help me. I was beginning to feel some relief. I found that I was not thinking that at any moment that I would barf. This is a plus.
I took my grandson to see Captain America and by the end of the movie I was feeling okay again. I had seriously paid for dinner out and did not enjoy it.
We met up after church at Bollywood Grill, another of my daughter's favorite places to eat. She suggested it as a cheaper buffet place to eat. I thought it would be good to get small portions of food to try. Again, the chicken was too dry and again the stuck feeling. I felt like I was seriously worse then the day before. Another thing, is that my grandson said to be that one piece of a vegetarian dish was actually fried. I had not realized it. That did not even pass my lips. No fried food for me.
I have to say that I do chew extensively. I try to add sauce if it comes with the meal over the chicken. I really enjoy chicken soups which help provide the protein and the moistness that I need to survive a chicken meal.
I had my RNY surgery in January 2008. There are days when chicken feels stuck more often when I feel as if I am getting my proper amount of protein from the chicken dish.
I have to say, that I have eaten out as a convenience this past weekend. I am not satisfied with my meal choices. I feel more comfortable preparing meals at home. Oh, yes, there are times that just a few bites of a meal that I make will be suffice. Yet, I feel that I spend less and give better nutrition to my body by eating at home.
My meals were $11.75, $17.95, and $11.95 of which I had perhaps $4 in total of the food.
We are meeting to pick up my grandson for his weekend with us next week. I told my daughter that I do not want to go out to eat. I just cannot afford it healthwise and economically.
